16-17 Feb: The Wizard of Oz

Saturday 17 February 2018

The Quarry Theatre, 26 St Peters Street, Bedford MK40 2NN

Friday 16th (7.30pm) & Saturday 17th February (2pm)

After three, very successful and enjoyable years producing Open Air Theatre, Pavilion Playhouse are going indoors.

Will the Scarecrow find a brain?

The Lion some courage?

The Tin Man a heart?

The Audience some ice cream?

The “irresistibly anarchic” Oddsocks Productions are bringing another classic adventure to life with a hearty dollop of their trademark comedy: new songs, familiar faces and laughs aplenty!

In a brand-new adaptation of L Frank Baum’s ‘The Wizard of Oz’, the Oddsocks troupe invite you to meet Dorothy as you’ve never seen her before. Join the Scarecrow, Lion and Tin Man as they travel through the weird and wonderful land of Oz, encountering Wet Witches, Flying Monkeys, Poisonous Poppies and a multitude of Munchkins along the way! What could possibly go wrong?

Writer and Producer Elli Mackenzie talks about why Oddsocks have chosen to re-tell The Wizard of Oz for an audience today: “To me, the story of Oz is about displacement and inventiveness. It’s a wonderful fantasy-tale of embracing challenges, new surroundings and learning that we all have an inner-resourcefulness and often already have the brain, heart and courage we need. It’s about realising your own potential.”

“We hope that audiences leave the theatre with a slightly bigger heart, positively challenged and perhaps a little braver too. But all the while, having enjoyed a great evening of entertainment shared with friends and family!”
