A Night At The Museum

Published on 07 July 2014

2014 marks the 100 Year Anniversary of the founding of The Brownies. To celebrate this landmark, Brownies from across the UK have been taking part in The Big Brownie Birthday.

Part of these celebrations is ‘The Brownie Stay Away’ which is an overnight residential event that gives Brownies a fun, unique and memorable experience.

Here in Bedford local Brownies took over The Higgins Museum for ‘A Night at the Museum’ – Literally

On Saturday 21st June over 90 Brownies from in and around Bedford stayed away at The Higgins Bedford and took part in loads of fun activities.

These included watching ‘A Night at the Museum’ in The Castle Room, a Museum Trail and then Sleeping between the exhibits. In the morning the Brownies played Parachute Games in the grounds and walked The Castle Mound.

Gill Lake, Division Commissioner, said, ‘We were delighted to have been able to stay over at The Higgins Museum. It was a fantastic opportunity and a marvellous way to mark the Brownies 100 year Birthday’ Gill added, ‘Sleeping amongst the exhibits was great fun and luckily none of them came to life’.

Not only was this a big celebration for the Brownies but a double celebration, as this night, the shortest of the year, also marked the anniversary of the Museum’s re-opening after a major refurbishment.

Over 1800 Brownies from across Bedfordshire took part in the Event, sleeping at various locations all over Bedford and beyond
