Business Breakfast with MP Richard Fuller

Published on 16 June 2015

Exclusively for businesses in the Business Improvement District (BID) of the town centre, a breakfast meeting is being staged at Bedford Swan Hotel on Wednesday June 24th.

Newly re-elected MP Richard Fuller will be the guest speaker on the subject of the Conservative Government’s plans for commerce and industry.

BedfordBID is one of the original 12 pilot BIDs in the UK. Since it was founded in 2005, 100s have been started in town centres across the country. BIDs, where businesses pay into a central pot to finance marketing and promotions for their trading area, have cross-party political support. They bring national companies and chains together with independents to generate mutually beneficial footfall.

“It is accepted that for town centres to thrive they must have the pulling power of big name brands and the interest offered by independents. Only our Love Bedford brand offers that umbrella of mutual interest,” said BedfordBID Director Christina Rowe,

“Here in Bedford the BID combines representation by private and public sector contributors in managing a fund which totals nearly £450,000 a year.

“That money is used for the marketing and presentation of the town centre and supports our team in delivering schemes such as the Love Bedford vouchers have made sure £850,000 has gone into local tills. On top of this is the fact that Bedford footfall continues upwards whilst other similar towns are losing customers year after year – keeping millions of pounds in the local economy.

“This is our third term. Other BIDs look to us as we lead by example. We are keen to hear from our local MP Richard Fuller what the Government have in mind to support those who invest in town centres.”

Businesses in the town centre who are interested in attending can contact the BID office on 01234 404500 or ask one of the Love Bedford Bluecaps who are on parade six days a week.
