Bedford Borough Council has announced that as of Thursday 7th January the following will be closed: Lurke Street, River Street and Allhallows multi-storey car parks. They will be closed overnight on the 7th and remain shut until further notice.
To provide parking for critical workers who need it and those on essential journeys, Queen Street multi-storey car park will remain open 24/7.
Parking will also be available at surface car parks including Riverside Car Park, St Mary's, Duckmill Lane, Ashburnham Road, Prebend Street, Greyfriars and Melbourne Street, and on-street parking will be available as always.
Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Transport said “With clear legal instructions to stay at home to control the virus, protect the NHS and save lives, we have made the decision to close three of our multi-storey car parks in the town centre overnight on Thursday 7th January.
“There will still be parking available at Queen Street multi-storey and surface car parks for critical workers who commute, need to park in town for work or anyone getting their essential shopping.”
The underground car park at The Harpur Centre is shut. The surface car park on The Broadway remains open.
