Music on Thursdays

Event in Bedford Town Centre

Bedford Music Club is a registered charity that promotes six professional classical music concerts each season under the umbrella ‘Music on Thursdays’.

We are pleased to announce our Concert Season for 2021/22.

This Season is as eclectic as ever with music spanning six centuries from three continents, exploring classical music in all its endless variety.

The internationally renowned choir Stile Antico returns for our first concert (7 October) with a contemplative programme reflecting the journey from sunset to dawn. How appropriate as we look forward with hope after a long, dark year!

On 11 November we present a recital for French horn by a sensational new talent, Ben Goldscheider and his partner on the piano, Huw Watkins. Huw is widely regarded as one of Britain’s finest composer-performers.

We strike out in a new direction on 20 January with a fascinating concert of classical Indian ragas by a true master of the sitar: Mehboob Nadeem. This really is World Music in the sense that it has profoundly influenced Western composers from Debussy to the Beatles.

On 24 February we present a recital of songs by Vaughan Williams, Rachmaninov, Brahms and Schubert by the Russian-British baritone Theodore Platt who joins us from his day job at the Bavarian State Opera. He is accompanied by Bedford Music Club’s Artistic Director and multiple award-winner, William Vann.

One of the world’s leading ensembles, Phoenix Piano Trio, join us on 24 March for an attractive programme of trios by Haydn and Beethoven, together with a recent work they commissioned from local composer Cherlyl Frances-Hoad.

The Season concludes on 28 April with a brilliant young quintet, Connaught Brass, who took first prize in the inaugural Philip Jones International Brass Competition in 2019. Their programme includes arrangements of popular operatic selections plus work specifically written for brass quintet.

We thank our Artistic Director, William Vann, for the considerable effort and vision that has gone into planning this series.
