Don’t Miss St Paul’s Church on BBC1!

Published on 21 September 2021

Event in Bedford Town Centre

Catherine Southon, antiques expert, will visit St Paul’s Church in the next episode of the BBC’s Antiques Road Trip, where she will meet with local historian James Collett-White to discover the church and the BBC’s collective history:

  • During the Second World War, the BBC moved much of its operations out of London to Bedford. The Trinity Chapel in St Paul's was used as a studio by the BBC during the Second World War for broadcasting the Daily Service, not only nationally but throughout Europe.
  • Then in 1941, on the National Day of Prayer on Sunday 7th September, the Archbishops of both Canterbury and York came together to St Paul's church, to lead the worship. With singing led by the BBC Singers, the service was broadcast live to the nation.
