In this concert at the Bunyan Meeting, proudly presented by Bedford Music Club, Alkyona String Quartet with Magdalenna Krstevska (clarinet) presents works influenced by Hungarian popular music including Dohnányi’s Serenade for String Trio in C major, Op.10 (1902), a selection from Bartók’s 44 Duos for Two Violins, and Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet in b minor, Op.115 (1891).
“A concert guaranteed to gladden the heart of all nostalgic, romantic spirits, this had the vital ingredients of attractive and intelligent programming, warm and convincing presentation and, above all, that sense of relaxed and balanced musicality which all chamber groups strive for.” (Strathearn Music Society)
Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet conveys a sense of improvisation and the influence of Hungarian folk idioms. Listen to it live tonight in the company of other music steeped in that heady melting pot.
