What is St Paul’s Church?
St Paul’s is a thriving parish church in the Catholic tradition of the Church of England, set in the heart of the busy market and county town of Bedford. The large medieval and later church of cathedral proportions dominates the town and exercises a ministry of welcome to thousands of visitors and pilgrims from far and wide each year. The church is open Monday to Friday and Sundays and exercises a ministry of worship, witness and inclusive welcome in the town centre, with a special care for the vulnerable and needy.
This fine church with its magnificent spire stands at the very heart of the County Town of Bedford. Surrounded on all sides by historic buildings, St. Paul’s serves both as a Parish Church and as the Civic and County Church of Bedfordshire. In addition to possessing many treasures from the medieval and Victorian era, the church is justly proud of its liturgical and musical tradition today. St Paul’s is also a central venue for concerts, recitals and exhibitions.
