Bedford Central Library is hosting a free half-term event celebrating the National Year of Reading with author S.J. Poyton and her new children’s book Mammoth Rider.
Children will journey into a frozen world alongside main character Ash Grimes and her newly returned mammoths in an immersive, interactive session exploring climate, conservation, science, courage, and imagination. The event includes storytelling, mammoth facts, discussions about cloning and de-extinction, behind-the-scenes insights into writing and research, a chance to see a real baby mammoth tooth, and a Q&A session.
The event is aimed at children in Years 3-6, though younger siblings are welcome. It lasts approximately one hour, and books will be available to purchase and sign afterwards from Close Encounters (card payments only).
Attendance is free, but advance booking is required for both children and accompanying adults, who must stay for the duration of the session.
