Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)

Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day, is the day before Ash Wednesday and marks the final day of feasting before the start of Lent in the Christian calendar.

It is traditionally a time for people to use up ingredients such as eggs, milk, and sugar, which they would typically avoid during the 40-day fasting period of Lent.

In many cultures, the day is celebrated with the making and eating of pancakes, symbolising the use of these ingredients. Shrove Tuesday is also associated with various festivities, including the famous pancake race in Olney.

Making your own pancakes is simple, with ingredients available from The Store, Tesco, Iceland and Lidl in town. You can even choose ready made mixtures and simply add milk. Or… you can plan an outing and have delicious piping hot pancakes prepared for you.
