Children from six primary schools in Bedford will take part in the Young Marketeers Bedford Market Day on Wednesday 1st July, from 12pm–2pm, at Bedford Charter Market.
The event is part of the Young Marketeers programme, run by School Food Matters in partnership with Food etc.. Over recent months, pupils have grown fruit and vegetables from seed with guidance from gardening experts. They will now harvest and sell their produce to the public, gaining hands-on experience in gardening, teamwork and enterprise.
Shoppers can buy a range of seasonal produce including broad beans, globe artichokes, herbs, peas, radishes, salad leaves and strawberries.
The programme aims to improve food education by helping children understand where food comes from, develop practical skills, learn about healthy eating and reduce food waste. Funds raised during the market day will be donated to Bedford Food Bank.
Journalists and photographers are invited to attend to meet participating pupils, take photographs and speak with representatives from School Food Matters.
