Green Bedford

Bedford’s green credentials are growing with more independent, sustainable businesses arriving. The Borough Council is introducing green strategies and working with BedfordBID to keep the town centre cleaner. Vintage shops are springing up, becoming instant hits and our markets are thriving.

Greener and cleaner

In a conscious effort to clean up Bedford, we are working with Bedford Borough Council, our independent business owners, and the wider business community to find ways to keep our town clean and tidy for residents and visitors. Our 2023 Great Big Green Week clean up was a huge success and we plan to build on and expand our activities.

Green Living

Bedford is home to a wide range of recycled and upcycled interiors and homewares. Electronics are also included with a healthy number of stores where you can recycle or repair any devices or games which have been taking up space at the bottom of the cupboard.

Green Eating

Clean and green eating establishments have been arriving in Bedford, some in the form of cafes and restaurants, some in the form of street food vans at our regular markets. With the aim of using locally sourced ingredients and freshly produced dishes, honest healthy food is easy to find.

Green Shopping

A flagship for green shoppping is The Store on St Cuthbert’s Street. With refillable everything, such as cleaning products, teas, coffees and groceries. You’ll also find skincare and gifts – and discover Bedford’s first living wall! Bedford is also home to a fantastic range of vintage shops stocking clothes (including exquisite bridal gowns!), shoes, music, books, games and the list goes on.
