Get the word out there, because Bedford Borough Council has begun its Year of Reading. This means 12 months of events and initiatives to celebrate and promote reading across the Borough.
Throughout 2025 there will be something for everyone to ignite, nurture or expand everybody’s love of reading. These will include town centre performances, literary trails, author readings, Bounce and Rhyme For Babies and Rhyme Time for Toddlers at our libraries, and a partnership with the Book Fairies to leave free books in public places across the Borough for people to read and then share anew.
There will also be a range of volunteering opportunities, such as the chance for adults to volunteer in local primary schools, helping to improve children’s reading skills and life chances.
More events, which will include plans with the likes of School Readers and Booktastic, will be revealed over the coming months.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Tom Wootton said; “2025 is Bedford Borough’s Year of Reading, and we’re really excited about it.
“At Bedford Borough Council we’re passionate about creating more and more opportunities for people of all ages to develop their skill and love of reading – and we know that our residents are going to love what we’ve got planned.
“Throughout the next 12 months we’ll have everything from stage shows, to author events to festivals.
“So get the word out there – 2025 is our Year of Reading!”
