Bedford Borough Council invites residents to have their say in National Highways and Transport Survey

Bedford Borough Council is calling on local residents to share their views on highways and transport services as part of the 18th annual National Highways and Transport Public Satisfaction Survey. This important survey covers everything from the condition of roads and footpaths to the quality of cycling facilities, providing a valuable voice for the community.

As one of 111 Local Authorities across England and parts of Scotland participating in this standardised survey, Bedford Borough Council will be able to compare local feedback with national trends. The survey helps identify areas of best practice and opportunities for improvement, ensuring services meet the needs of residents effectively and efficiently.

From 6 June 2025, a minimum random sample of 3,300 Bedford Borough residents will receive the questionnaire by post, with a reminder sent to encourage participation. Residents can also choose to complete the survey online via a short URL printed on the questionnaire, using a unique code provided.

The results, due to be published in late October 2025, will provide crucial insight into public opinion on local highways and transport services. This feedback will help the Council prioritise improvements and deliver better outcomes for the community.

Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said, “We value the voices of our residents and encourage everyone who receives the survey to take part. This survey is not about ranking councils but about understanding what matters most to our community. By working alongside other authorities, we can learn from each other and enhance the services that keep Bedford Borough moving safely and sustainably.”

How to Participate

  • Residents selected for the survey will receive a 12-page questionnaire by post.
  • The questionnaire covers all aspects of highways and transport services and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
  • Online completion is available for convenience using the unique code provided.
  • Participation is voluntary but vital to ensure Bedford Borough Council can accurately assess and improve its services.
