Library spotlight: Digital books

Can’t decide which of the 10 books you’ve been saving to take on holiday? Save space in your suitcase by downloading your favourite authors onto a device instead, absolutely free!

Bedford Borough Library members can borrow e-books, audiobooks, and magazines through Libby and BorrowBox, perfect for long car journeys with the family, relaxing by the pool, or reading on a plane. Join the library and download the Libby and BorrowBox apps to choose from a huge range of titles. Browse by genre, new release, age range or reading lists, or just search for your favourite authors and titles.

Download to listen or read, then your digital books are returned automatically so you don’t even need to remember to return them and there are not late fees.

Become a library member by speaking to staff at your local library during staffed hours, or online at Online Registration – About Your Library – Virtual Library

You can discover more audiobooks, e-books, and magazines from Libby at https://bedfordshireuk.overdrive.com/ Or browse audiobooks from BorrowBox at Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire Libraries – BorrowBox

Digital books are just part of the wide range of stock types we are promoting as part of Bedford Borough Council’s Year of Reading, which is taking place throughout 2025.

Stay posted to find out about the wide range of events and initiatives taking place, including town centre performances, literary trails, and author readings.

There will also be a range of volunteering opportunities, such as the chance for adults to volunteer in local primary schools, helping to improve children’s reading skills and life chances.
