Refurbishment Works to Begin on Bedford Park Bandstand

Bedford Borough Council is pleased to announce that refurbishment works on the iconic Bedford Park Bandstand are set to commence in the week beginning 21st July 2025. The project is anticipated to last approximately 10 weeks, during which time the bandstand will undergo extensive external and internal restoration.

The refurbishment includes a full redecoration of the structure and perimeter fencing, along with installation of security grilles and prefabricated stairs to improve access. These improvements aim to restore the bandstand to full usability, ensuring it can once again serve as a vibrant focal point for community events and performances.

In preparation for the works, removal of planting and vegetation surrounding the bandstand will be carried out before the contract start date to facilitate smooth and safe access for contractors.

The project is funded by Bedford Borough Council, demonstrating the council’s ongoing commitment to preserving and enhancing public spaces for residents and visitors alike.

Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture, said, “The Bedford Park Bandstand is a cherished landmark in our community, and we are excited to bring it back to life. This refurbishment will not only protect the structure for future generations but also provide a welcoming venue for local events and performances. We thank the public for their patience during the works and look forward to seeing the bandstand bustling with activity once again.”

Residents are advised that some areas of Bedford Park around the bandstand may be temporarily restricted during the refurbishment period for safety reasons. The council will provide updates throughout the project to keep the community informed.
