The Blue Sky Social Care Card Continues to Provide Official Recognition and Benefits to the UK Social Care Community

The Blue Sky Social Care Card is an officially verified social care sector ID card designed for people working in or connected with social care in the UK. It acts both as a recognised identification card and a discount/perks card for social care staff, carers (paid and unpaid), volunteers, and other eligible people.

 Purpose & Recognition

  • The card gives visible recognition to social care roles, helping carers and care workers demonstrate their identity and role when out in the community.
  • It has been promoted as a step toward greater public awareness of the contribution made by social care workers – including paid, unpaid, and volunteer carers – across the UK.

Who Is Eligible

Eligibility is broad and inclusive, covering:

  • Paid carers, support workers, personal assistants
  • Care home and agency staff
  • Self-employed carers
  • Social workers and workers in user-led organisations
  • Unpaid carers and volunteers
  • Employers in social care, foster carers, SEND childcare providers, and others involved in social care services.

What the Card Offers

  • Verified ID – a photo card showing your role and name, helping to prove your status in your professional or caring role.
  • Discounts & perks – access to offers and savings online and on the high street with participating businesses, although availability and acceptance can vary by location and retailer.
  • Perks & membership benefits – sometimes including support resources and access to benefits linked to social care networks or training (depending on what’s offered at the time).

How It Works

  • You apply online with photo ID, proof of eligibility (e.g., payslip, employment contract, carer documentation) and a recent photo.
  • Once verified, you receive your card and can start using it to show your social care status and access discounts.
  • The card usually carries a small annual fee (e.g., around ?5 per year) to maintain membership.

Things to Know

  • The scheme is run by a not-for-profit organisation (Disability Direct and Blue Sky Brokers) with profits supporting charity work through The Disability Syndicate.
  • It aims to support not just recognition, but a stronger sense of community for people in social care roles.

We have recently won the Carers Contract in Bedfordshire and are in the process of setting up our offices. We are also happy to let you know with our card being National we have had a lot of local businesses that have agreed to support us and give discounts to our card holders in Bedford.
