Bedford Borough Council is pleased to announce a significant investment in River Street Car Park, with a complete upgrade and refurbishment of all three lifts scheduled to begin on Monday 19 February 2024.
This essential project will ensure the continued smooth operation and accessibility of the car park for years to come. All three lifts have reached the end of their expected lifespan and require comprehensive modernisation. The works will improve reliability and performance resulting in a better experience for users of the car park.
Councillor Andrea Spice, Portfolio Holder for Town Centres and Planning at Bedford Borough Council, said, “We understand the importance of reliable and accessible parking facilities in Bedford town centre. This investment in River Street Car Park demonstrates our commitment to providing a high-quality experience for all users. The upgraded lifts will be smoother, quieter, and more energy-efficient, and will offer improved reliability for years to come.”
To minimise disruption, the project will be carried out in two stages. Lifts 1 and 2 will be out of service from 19 February to early May 2024 while lift 3 continues to operate. Following this, lift 3 will be out of service from early May to mid-July 2024 while lifts 1 and 2 will be in operation. Additional communications will follow throughout the works advising of specific dates and the switchover of works.
