Bedford Premiere Celebrates 30 Years of the Original Stage Play with National Tour Screening of Milestone: Streets Paved with Gold
Sunday 14th June 2026 | 5pm – 8pm
Audiences in Bedford are invited to experience a powerful evening of culture, heritage, laughter, and cinematic storytelling at the beautiful Bedford Corn Exchange for a very special National Windrush Day screening event.
Celebrating 30 years since the original stage production first toured theatres, Milestone: Streets Paved with Gold arrives in Bedford as part of its National Tour following its acclaimed UK premiere at Phoenix Cinema and Art Centre in October 2025.
Presented by V Jay Theatre Productions and Authentic Tales, this compelling 62-minute feature film honours the Windrush generation and the Caribbean migration experience in Britain.
Adapted from the acclaimed one-man theatre play written and performed by Victor Richards, the film follows Augustus Cleveland Johnson, who arrives in England in 1948 full of hope and ambition, before facing decades of struggle, resilience, family life, cultural change, and identity in post-war Britain.
Blending immersive voiceover narration, vivid dramatic recreations, and powerful historical archive footage, Milestone: Streets Paved with Gold offers an emotional and visually rich tribute to the generation that helped shape modern Britain.
Filmed across Leicester and the Midlands, the production is a moving sensory celebration of Caribbean-British heritage, endurance, and contribution.
Photography, interviews, and media attendance are welcome.
The Bedford event promises a unique evening of entertainment and reflection, featuring:
- A special Windrush Comedy Sketch performed by the celebrated Fabulous
Five from the Bedford Caribbean Senior Citizens Association - An exclusive 16-minute segment showcasing highlights from the UK premiere
screening in Leicester - A live audience Q&A session with Executive Producer, Co-Director, and Lead
Actor Victor Richards
As the film continues its National Tour across the UK, the Bedford screening stands as a major cultural celebration marking National Windrush Day and recognising the enduring legacy of Caribbean communities in Britain.
Victor Richards says:
This film is a heartfelt tribute to the Windrush pioneers whose sacrifices, resilience,
and determination helped shape modern Britain. Their stories deserve to be
remembered, honoured, and celebrated by future generations.
