Much-loved independent retailer Boutique Planet has announced it will be closing its doors after more than 30 years trading in Bedford town centre.
The news was shared by owners Jo and Nick via social media, where they described the decision as a difficult but necessary step as they look ahead to new opportunities. Since opening over three decades ago, Boutique Planet has been a fixture of Bedford’s retail landscape, building a loyal customer base and becoming an integral part of the town’s independent shopping community.
In their statement, Jo and Nick paid tribute to their customers, staff and fellow traders, particularly their neighbours in the Arcade, thanking them for their loyalty, friendship and support over the years.
“While it’s incredibly sad to say goodbye, we will cherish the memories and relationships built along the way,” they said. “It’s been a true privilege to be part of such an amazing community.”
Over the coming weeks, Boutique Planet will be clearing its remaining stock at reduced prices. Customers are also encouraged to use any outstanding gift vouchers as soon as possible.
The closure highlights the ongoing challenges faced by independent businesses on the high street, as rising costs and changing shopping habits continue to impact town centres across the UK. Jo and Nick used their announcement to encourage continued support for Bedford’s independent retailers, describing them as “the heart of our town”.
